Alex Prager
Alex Prager was born in Los Angeles, California where she lives and works. She is a self taught photographer whose featured work is exhibited in institutions worldwide. She is a commercial photographer who worked for New York Times Magazine, Vogue, W Magazine, and Art in America. Alex manipulates color, tone, make-up, and costuming to create a retro feel. In all of her photographs, she uses interesting color schemes which makes you feel you are in a different time period.
In this photo, the model is fully in focus while looking in the distance above her. The camera was positioned above the subject at a slight angle to the left. The clear focal point of this picture is the model's face which is symmetrical and balanced using the rule of thirds. Her facial expression shows curiosity and interest in something above her. This artistic picture is visually interesting because of the contrast between the vibrant colors in her blond hair, blue eyes, and red clothing.
To recreate this photo, I used my sister as a model. Like the original photograph, it was taken in the same viewpoint. Her face is the clear focal point in the picture and the two are both wearing some type of red clothing. In the first picture by Alex, the model's eyes really pop out as a focus point and I tried to do the same with my sister's. The style and mood between both photographs portray a sense of happiness and interest to their surrounding areas. This makes the viewer want to know what they were thinking and looking at when the picture was taken. Some differences between the two would be lighting. In the original picture, the lighting is much brighter. There is a difference between what the two model's were wearing, as well as their face and hair color. Even though these differences occurred, the second photo is an accurate representation of the first, original photograph by Alex Prager.
